Donkey milk and sensitive skin: what research says about hydration and the skin barrier

Donkey milk raises a foal. Among the milks of different animals, it is known through research to have a composition relatively similar to human milk.

Like human milk, it is relatively low in total protein and casein, and it contains bioactive proteins such as lysozyme, with an amino acid composition that resembles human milk.

Similar is not the same as proven

Being close to human milk does not by itself prove how a cosmetic performs on skin. What matters is separate skin research, and that research has been reporting on donkey milk's potential for skin hydration and the skin barrier.

What the studies report

In research applying donkey milk to skin, donkey milk was reported to help recover skin cells damaged by UV and indicators related to the skin barrier. In a small study, 15 healthy adults used a cream containing donkey milk, and an increase in skin hydration was observed after use.

This is why donkey milk draws attention as an ingredient for dry and sensitive skin: its potential for hydration and the skin barrier is being studied, and the skin barrier is what keeps moisture in and everyday irritation out.

Why we started here

The story that donkey milk has been prized for a long time was not enough for us. We wanted to know what it actually contains, and how far the skin research goes. So we try not to say "it is donkey milk, so it is gentle." We would rather be a little less dazzling and tell you accurately what has been confirmed about our donkey milk skincare.

What we will not promise

Skin differs from person to person, and the same skin changes with the season and with how you are feeling. However gently a product is made, no product suits everyone, including sensitive skin. When you try something new, apply a small amount to a small area such as the inside of your arm first, and watch how your skin responds. If a product does not agree with your skin, it is not a wrong choice on your part. Skin is simply different for each of us. And if trouble does occur after using one of our products, we will not step away from it.

Looking carefully at what the donkey milk from our own farm is. Saying only what research and testing have confirmed. Accepting that every skin is different, and solving problems together when they arise. These are SKYMILK's principles for gentle everyday care.
